One among 6 people suffers from the metabolic syndrome which points to almost 47 million Americans. It is has strong genetic and racial predispositions, and gets worse with increasing age.
As the name suggest, this syndrome is connected to the metabolism. Any disorder, disruption or irregularity of the metabolic activity may lead to a disease or condition which falls under this syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is not a disease by itself but is a blanket term for a cluster of debilitating body conditions all of which have high risk factors for normal health.
These conditions range from diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, and obesity. These conditions arise when the metabolism slows down or performs erratically. Over time these can cause grave danger to the heart and blood vessels, increasing risks for strokes, heart attacks, severe diabetes, or kidney failures.
While there is no specific treatment for metabolic syndrome outlined in traditional medical science, it can be treated with alternative therapies and functional medicine. Lifestyle changes and clinical nutrition paves also help in paving the way for holistic healing.
